Introducing a new division of Brower Literary & Management geared towards Self-Published Authors
In working with various authors, ranging from bestselling to debut, we’ve realized that not everyone wants to be traditionally published. There are many successful authors out there that have no desire to work with a publisher – whether you’ve already been-there-done-that and found it wasn’t for you or whether you are perfectly happy self-publishing. We’ve found that there are so many self-published authors out there who want representation to help manage their subrights, but don’t want the pressure of feeling like they have to “go traditional.” We want to help you.
Brower Literary & Management is starting a new division of the agency in which we will be taking on self-published authors simply to manage your subrights without interfering with your digital sales. This will allow you to focus on writing and promoting your book, while knowing you have top-notch representation managing your audio, foreign and other subsidiary rights.
ABOUT SUBRIGHTS MANAGEMENT
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN SUBRIGHTS?
Typically, as a self-published author, all rights excluding your eBook rights. You can opt to exclude other subrights; however, this will have to be disclosed prior to signing with Brower Literary & Management and may impact our decision whether or not to take you on as a subrights management client.
We actively pursue deals and opportunities to maximize your income from licensing subrights for your backlist and frontlist. We work directly with various audio publishers and producers, whether you want to sell your rights or exploit them yourself. In addition, we work with print distributors to help expand your reach in print beyond KDP Print. We also handle all foreign rights in house, so that your books get the most attention it deserves. And finally, we have various contacts in Hollywood to help manage your film/tv rights. Please note that while we do have these contacts, there is no guarantee that these rights will be optioned or licensed.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REGULAR REPRESENTATION AND SUBRIGHTS MANAGEMENT?
The answer lies with what you are looking for.
With regular representation, you will have a dedicated agent managing your career from beginning to end, constantly considering and mindful of your short term and long term goals. If you want to be traditionally published and/or want someone to help guide you through the publishing world, we’d recommend you query agents for regular representation. Click here for submission guidelines.
With subrights management, you want to stay a self-published author, at least for the time being, yet you want an established, reputable agency to help you pursue deals for your subrights, such as audio, foreign, print, film/tv, etc.
If you are unsure what you are looking for, feel free to contact us. We’d be happy to help direct you to the right place.
WHAT KIND OF AUTHORS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR? WHAT IF I’M DEBUT?
The beauty of this division is that there are no stringent criteria that you must fit. We are considering all types of self-published authors, whether you are distributed widely or enrolled in Kindle Unlimited. Nonetheless, we are highly selective and generally only accept authors that we believe we can help achieve commercial success.
If you are a debut author, we welcome you to send us a query!
WHAT IF I EVENTUALLY DO WANT TO BECOME TRADITIONALLY PUBLISHED?
If you sign with us for subrights management, we will happily discuss with you your options and what our thoughts are when the time comes. While we do require that you give us first right of refusal, we cannot guarantee a switch from subrights management to full agency representation.

Because of the amount of emails we receive and our commitment to respond within two weeks, we will only respond to the authors we are interested in; however, this does not mean you cannot reapply in the future.
